SCOTT SPAGES
While at Miami, he also experienced for the first time Cuban refugees (and many others) whose plight and struggle marked a turning point in Scott’s life. “They weren’t in Miami, like so many others, for the beaches or the malls or the sunshine,” Scott remembers. “Politics wasn’t a game for them; it was life or death. Win or lose, they cried after each election.” Later, as president of the Biscayne Bay Young Republicans, Scott had the honor of helping the first Cuban-American get elected to Congress.
Upon graduating with a degree in business administration, Scott began what became a successful, 25-year career in capital equipment sales and marketing, culminating in large sales to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and Memorial and Broward Health Systems.
Throughout his time in corporate sales and marketing, Scott put into practice a personal mantra: “Organization and efficiency breeds success.” A student of salesmanship experts Tom Hopkins, Dale Carnegie and various strategic selling techniques, Scott applied these teachings to his rapidly accelerating development and understanding of business and political leadership.
While Scott was rising in the ranks of corporate sales and marketing, near the turn of the millennium, he made an intentional decision to transition to his calling: public policy and leadership via political campaigns. Always a political activist, Scott brought his expertise in sales, marketing, and team building to Tom Truex’s successful campaigns in Davie for town council (2001) and mayor (2003, 2006).
Having found his professional calling, Scott lent his passion and talents to local campaigns across South Florida, racking up victories and learning valuable lessons about leadership, team building, and networking.
Scott also began integrating his political activism with his faith. A disciple at Calvary Chapel — Ft. Lauderdale, Scott founded the Faith Forum ministry to encourage Christians to impact America’s public policy and leadership through prayer, education and action.
Through Faith Forum, Scott built a team of like-minded believers and seekers who met monthly to pray, develop interpersonal relationships and plan several months of programs. He coached committee members to take ownership of a specific area of responsibility that best suited their skills. Knowing that communications would be critical, Scott developed an extensive email list and was an early adopter of social media. Through Scott’s servant leadership, Faith Forum grew into a vibrant ministry, leading voter registration drives for thousands of church congregants.
While Scott was thriving in both politics and the church in South Florida, he sensed a calling to take his political activism to the national stage. In 2014, he responded by relocating to Washington, D.C., where he worked for a number of conservative and pro-family political organizations, including the Heritage Foundation, Well Versed, the Family Research Council and American Majority. At each stop, Scott learned how to apply his business experience to promoting the principles of free enterprise, American exceptionalism, and traditional Judeo-Christian values.
In 2020, Scott received another call — this time from God. “As I look back over my life, my career, my activism, one consistent thread impressed upon me is that Godly leadership is too valuable a gift to neglect. And which group of God-fearing people possess most of the raw leadership qualities needed by our nation than high-level athletes and Olympians? God’s calling for me was clear: to identify and train His people to refine and develop their leadership skills for a second calling that will truly make America ‘one nation under God’.”
And with that calling, DESTINE was born.
Scott’s career had been in capital equipment sales for twenty-five years mostly in the medical arena. He is now aligning his calling and his career by working in public policy and leadership.
